Reinstate rusticated interns, Goa Youth Congress writes to college deanPanaji, May 30 (Ajit Weekly News) The Goa Pradesh Youth Congress (GPYC) on Monday submitted a memorandum to the dean of Goa Medical College demanding revocation of the rustication orders of five intern doctors.

The five were rusticated last week, after ganja was found in the common toilet of the boys’ hostel at GMC.

GPYC president Adv. Varad Mardolkar and other members called on dean Shivanand Bandekar and said that intern doctors were rusticated only after health Minister Vishwajit Rane tweeted to take action. “It is evident that the Health Minister has pressured you (dean) in the matter,” Mardolkar said.

“As per police, the FIR is being filed against unknown persons and not against the five interns, who are rusticated. Then how the Health Minister and the office of dean take a hasty decision of rusticating the five interns when the case is still under investigation?,” the Youth Congress stated in the memorandum.

It said that this rustication before a thorough investigation will affect the careers of the five intern doctors, who are well qualified and are the finest doctors produced by GMC.

“Due to this case, all their preparations and struggle should not go in vain as we will lose qualified doctors who are needed for the state of Goa,” it added.

The Youth Congress has demanded a thorough investigation into the drug trade in the coastal state, which, according to them, has reached even the villages from the coastal areas.

Dean Shivanand Bandekar told the Youth Congress leaders that a thorough investigation will take place on how the ganja came inside the campus.
