Jaspreet Singh of Bulger Road in Wolverhampton initially denied the offences but later pleaded guilty to five counts on the indictment at the Isleworth Crown Court recently, news website MyLondon reported on Tuesday.
The court heard that Singh, who overstayed his visa to live in the UK, threatened to burn down his victim’s house, repeatedly touched her, and held her mouth shut to stop her screaming in a series of disturbing attacks.
Prosecutor Jose Olivares-Chandler told the court that the victim’s family met Singh at a Gurdwara in Southall and assumed he was a “good Sikh”.
The defendant touched the victim on her arms, hands, thighs, and waist, and on one occasion sat next to her and felt her ankle, telling her he “did not mean it like that”, the prosecution said.
When the victim broke her silence and accused Singh in front of her mum, he denied doing anything wrong, and said that the girl had taken it the wrong way and he had not touched her in a “bad way”, Olivares-Chandler said.
Shortly after this, Singh was arrested and he told police the allegations were “financially motivated”, describing them as “bull-f******-sh**”, MyLondon reported.
In a victim impact statement, the girl said, “I feel like this whole situation has caused me to lose a bit of me. It feels very difficult to explain how this has affected me because it became normalised. It took me two years to work out what was happening. I think this has taken away part of my childhood.”
“I felt like I had no safe place…. Jaspreet made multiple attempts to stop me telling my family… Jaspreet even went as far as threatening to burn my house down. He even went as far as threatening to come to my school… Jaspreet told me it was better for my sake and his sake to keep me quiet.”
