GRP to continue initiative to teach poor kidsUnnao, Aug 31 (Ajit Weekly News) The Government Railway Police (GRP), Lucknow Division, has named the Unnao police station as the nodal office for the ‘open school’ of Korari Kalan, ‘Har Haath Mein Kalam Pathshaala’ that was initiated by head constable Rohit Kumar Yadav for underprivileged children.

Two constables, Ankit Verma and Shikha Tomar, have volunteered for the job.

Verma, the 2011 batch constable and who has appeared twice in UPSC mains, said: “Rohit’s effort is commendable and I wish to contribute to his endeavour. Since I have a clerical job at GRP Unnao station, I would be able to take out time to teach the kids.”

At least one constable is expected to teach students.

SP GRP, Lucknow Division, Mohammad Mushtaq, said: “We have made Unnao GRP the nodal office for the school and have instructed that at least one constable should always visit school voluntarily to teach the underprivileged children.”

Three civilians, Pradeep, a private tutor, Sonu and Ranjeet, also regularly visit the school to teach children.

Rohit had hired two teachers for Rs 2,000 monthly each to teach 125 students.

Pooja Devi, 24, one of theteachers, said: “I have been associated with the school since 2019. Almost all the students in our open sky schools come from extremely poor families. Some of the students are even orphans. Rohit wants that we all put our energies into educating these children, so that they do not have to beg to survive.”

When Rohit was recently transferred to Jhansi, his students wept uncontrollably.
