Punjab govt staff may not get October pay before Diwali | Chandigarh News

CHANDIGARH: Punjab government employees, who continued to protest for the third day on Friday for implementation of the 6th Punjab Pay Commission, the release of dearness allowance and regularisation of contractual employees, may not get salary for the month of October before Diwali on November 4.
Nearly 2.85 lakh employees of the Punjab government get salaries in their bank accounts on the first day of the month. Sukhchain Singh Khaira, the convener of the Punjab Sanjha Mulajam Manch, who was part of the meeting on Friday evening with the representatives of the state government, said that till Friday there was no development about the salary bills in the government treasury.

As Saturday and Sunday are non-working days, even if the salary bills reach the treasury on Monday (November 1), it takes a minimum of five days to process salaries by the treasury,” said Khaira. Diwali is on November 4.
The employees’ union representatives held a meeting on Friday evening with the chief minister’s principal secretary Hussan Lal, principal secretary finance KAP Sinha and principal secretary personnel department Vivek Pratap Singh but the discussion did not reach finality about the anomalies in the pay commission and release of the pending dearness allowance. The employees’ union representatives have been assured a meeting with the technical department on Saturday to discuss the technicalities of implementing the pay commission.
The Punjab employees are also looking forward to the release of 14% pending dearness allowance and after some meetings with the government officers, they are hopeful that the state government may release at least 11% dearness allowance in the salary for the month of November.
In view of the protests, the Punjab finance department on Friday issued a fresh notification pertaining to the implementation of the 6th Pay Commission regarding pension and retirement benefits for those who were superannuated on or after January 1, 2016. Convenor of the joint employees’ forum of Punjab and UT Chandigarh Gurmail Singh Sidhu said that government employees across the state would continue to protest till their demands are accepted in writing by the state government. “Pensioners are not satisfied with the notification issued about the pensioners on Friday by the government as it is against the recommendations of the pay commission and we will protest,” said Sidhu.
