New Delhi: Run-machine Babar Azam on Thursday attained the record for scoring most T20 centuries for Pakistan. Playing for Central Punjab in the National T20 Cup in Rawalpindi, he recently scored his sixth T20 century against Northern. The Pakistani skipper scored an unbeaten 105 runs off 63 balls with help of 11 fours and 3 huge sixes. Pakistan’s Ahmed Shehzad and Kamran Akmal both have scored five T20 centuries each. Skipper Babar Azam also surpassed Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli, who has scored 5 tons from 315 T20 matches.
Babar, with 6 centuries from 194 T20 matches, has now scored the joint-most T20 tons among Asian players as he joins senior India opener Rohit Sharma in elite list of Asian batsmen who have scored the most centuries in T20 cricket.
List of Asian batsman with most number of T20 tons
1 Babar Azam 6 centuries off 193 matches
2 Rohit Sharma 6 centuries off 353 matches
3 Ahmed Shehzad 5 centuries off 222 matches
4 Kamran Akmal 5 centuries off 280 matches
5 Virat Kohli 5 centuries off 315 matches
Record-breaking machine Babar Azam will be more than happy after scoring a T20 ton ahead of the T20 World Cup. India is slated to lock horns with Pakistan on October 24 in the T20 World Cup at Dubai.
Both the teams will start their campaign in the T20 World Cup with this match. Last time India and Pakistan battled against one another was in the ICC World Cup 2019. MS Dhoni-led India has then defeated Pakistan. Interestingly, Pakistan is yet to win their first-ever against India in a World Cup game.
