Sukhbir Singh Badal appears in Hoshiarpur court, secures bail in forgery case | Chandigarh News

HOSHIARPUR: Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday appeared and secured bail in the court of additional chief judicial magistrate (ACJM) Rupinder Singh in the case of allegedly committing forgery while amending and submitting constitution of the party to statutory authorities.
The criminal complaint against former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, Sukhbir Singh Badal and SAD secretary Daljit Singh Cheema was filed by Hoshiarpur cased activist Balwant Singh Khera.
They were originally summoned in the case by the court of ACJM on November 4, 2019 but later Cheema had moved Punjab and Haryana high court seeking quashing of the case. However, on August 27, the HC dismissed the petition and asked them to appear in lower court while holding Badal senior’s presence should not be insisted as he is a nonagenarian.
Subsequently, additional district and sessions judge JPS Khurmi on September 2 had ordered Sukhbir Badal to surrender before the trial court on or before September 13 to get bail. However, the court of ACJM Rupinder Singh, the trial court in this case, had already fixed the case for September 8 and Sukhbir appeared in the court on Wednesday and furnished bail bond of Rs 1 lakh. His advocates accompanied him on the occasion. Cheema also appeared in the court.
The criminal complaint was filed by Malta Boat Tragedy Probe Mission Chairman Balwant Singh Khera in February 2009 on the ground that SAD (Badal) had two types of constitutions – one submitted by the party with Gurudwara Election Commission (before 2004 election of SGPC) and the other before Election Commission of India. “The case is primarily of preparing false documents and then using them in order to cheat the authorities and innocent citizens. It is a case of impeccable documentary evidence,” said Khera’s counsel Hitesh Puri.
The criminal case was filed against Badal senior and junior, then party secretary general Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, secretary Dr Daljit Singh Cheema and party’s district Hoshiarpur president alleging that the leaders committed a serious crime and they were liable to be prosecuted as provided by law under sections 465, 466, 467, 468 and 471 of IPC. However, the court had summoned three leaders only – the Badals and Cheema.
