Tokyo Olympics LIVE Updates: New Zealand Score In 3rd Quarter But Trail India 2-3

India took a crucial 3-2 lead against New Zealand in the Pool A match in men’s hockey. After Kane Russell gave New Zealand the lead, Rupinder Pal Singh and Harmanpreet Singh helped India recover from a bad start after two quarters of play. Harmanpreet was in action again, as he scored his second of the game through a penalty corner while Stephen Jenness scored for New Zealand right before the end of the third quarter. Indian women’s hockey team will also be kick-starting their campaign on Day 2. zIndia’s Deepika Kumari and Pravin Jadhav beat Chinese Taipei’s Chih-Chun Tang and Chia-En Lin in a thriller (set points 5-3) to reach quarterfinal in the mixed team event in Archery. On the other hand, Shooters Elavenil Valarivan finished at 16th (626.5) while Apurvi Chandela finished 36th (621.9) after six series of 10 shots and therefore failed to qualify in the 10m air rifle women’s qualification round (only top 8 qualified). Meanwhile, badminton player Sai Praneeth will be facing Ziberman Misha of Israel in the Men’s Singles Group Stage (Group D). Mirabai Chanu, who is expected to win a gold medal, will also be in action on Day 2 in her category. Other than the usual favourites, the Indian contingent will also be participants in judo, rowing, table tennis, tennis, badminton, shooting and boxing events on Day 2.
