‘Punjab Mission’ talk: Sanyukt Kisan Morcha suspends Gurnam Singh Charuni for a week | Amritsar News

BHATINDA: Taking serious note of attempts by Gurnam Singh Charuni, president of Haryana-based farm organisation BKU (Charuni), to push for taking the farm struggle into political mode, the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Wednesday suspended him for a week.
The morcha leadership warned him not to say anything contrary to their stand and barred him from addressing gatherings from the SKM stage during this period.
Unmoved by this, Charuni said he stands firm on his position, but will continue to be part of farm agitation despite the difference of opinion.
Charuni said asking Punjab farmers to go into the electoral arena and to form a government was his viewpoint and nobody could stop him from expressing his views. He further said that his organisation had made the biggest contribution in the ongoing farmer protest and will continue to do so.
Rejecting the course suggested by Charuni, the SKM has decided to go ahead with much-awaited ‘Mission UP’.
Farmers’ focus on getting laws repealed
Charuni has been repeatedly asking Punjab-based farmer leaders to jump into the political arena, saying that there is a dire need to take forward ‘Mission Punjab’ while ‘Mission UP’ could wait. Punjab’s 32 farm organisations had in a meeting on Tuesday opposed his agenda with a voice vote, preparing ground for action against him. The farmers’ focus is on strengthening the fight against the central government with the aim of forcing it to repeal the contentious farm laws.
Rejecting the course suggested by Charuni, the SKM decided to go ahead with muchawaited ‘Mission UP’ and announced the start of its move to unseat the BJP from power. The SKM has decided to hold a national panchayat at Muzzafarnagar in UP on September 5 – where — farm leaders from various states will assemble and sound the bugle of opposition against BJP.
The farmers will hold district-level meetings from August 1-25 to prepare ground for the September 5 panchayat at Muzzafarnagar. In October-November, mahapanchayats will be organised in 17 divisions in UP and two in Uttrakhand. The action will be further intensified in coming months and the farmers’ fight will start heading towards its peak in November,” – said — senior — farm – leader Balbir Singh Rajewal and Yudhvir Singh.
In line with SKM’s proposed march towards Parliament during the monsoon session slated to begin from July 22, the farm organisations under its banner have been asked to provide lists of 5 members each by July 17 to move towards Parliament every day till the session ends on August 13. According to the leaders, all the farmers who are shortlisted will be provided identity cards, taken to Parliament under SKM security and no violence or indiscipline will be tolerated. The farmers will try to reach Parliament in buses, but in case they are stopped, they will sit at that place or “court arrest”. If they are allowed to go ahead, they will hold a protest outside Parliament and return in the evening, and another jatha will go the next day.
The SKM slammed the Haryana police for incorporating sedition charges in a case registered against farmers at Sirsa and pointed out that the farmers are fighting against farm laws not waging any war against the country. They said the charges will be challenged in the court.
