Man accused of Shaurya Chakra awardee’s murder gets bail | Chandigarh News


Mohali: The accused in the October 2020 murder case of Balwinder Singh Sandhu, a left activist who was awarded the Shaurya Chakra in 1993 for fighting off Khalistan terrorists, was granted regular bail by a court here on Friday.
National Investigating Agency (NIA) court of judge Karunesh Kumar in Mohali granted the bail to Ravinder Singh alias Ravi Dhillon (20).
Sandhu was murdered on October 16, 2020.
Defence counsel Jaspal Singh Manjpur said Dhillon had been charge-sheeted by the NIA under Section 120-B read with Section 201 of IPC, which are bailable offences. Thus, accused Ravi has been ordered to be released on bail on his furnishing a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh with a surety of the like amount, he said.
Dhillon, a resident of Hussainpura village in Ludhiana district, is among the eight accused against whom the NIA has filed the chargesheet for murdering Sandhu, conferred with the bravery award for fighting against terrorism in Punjab. Sandhu was gunned down by two men riding a bike at his home in Bhikhiwind town of Tarn Taran district.
Dhillon was arrested in November last year. After this, the investigation was handed over to NIA, which submitted the report under Section 173 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (Cr.P.C).
NIA had taken over investigation from state police in January. Other accused arrested by NIA are Sukhmeet Pal Singh, alias Sukh, alias Bhikhariwal; Sukhraj Singh, alias Lakhanpal; Sukhdeep Singh, alias Bhura; Gurjit Singh, alias Bha, of Gurdaspur district; Akashdeep Arora, alias Dhaliwal; Jagroop Singh of Ludhiana; and Inderjit Singh alias Inder, of Tarn Taran.
