Famous National Parks that offer Sri Lanka Safari |

Sri Lanka is home to some of the world’s most diverse wildlife sanctuaries and national parks, allowing tourists to partake in some of the most exhilarating safari experiences. A safari in Sri Lanka is all about discovering the country’s wild side. Sri Lanka’s fauna, which is dominated by elephants, leopards, deers, boars, and flamingos, will wow you at every step.

1. Udawalawe National Park:

Udawalawe is known not just for elephants, but also for other wildlife such as leopards and a variety of bird species. There are reported to be only 10-12 leopards in this National Park, due to which the chances to spot a leopard is less here.

Due to the Udawalawe Reservoir, there are many Sri Lankan elephants. The possibility to spot an elephant is high as the number of elephants in this area is around 500 to 700.

In Udawalawe, there is a rich diversity. There are 184 bird species, 33 reptile species, 43 mammals, and 135 butterfly species. There are also chances of seeing water buffaloes, wild boars, crocodiles, peacocks, spotted deer, leopards and elephants.

2. Wasgamuwa National Park:

Wasgamuwa National Park, located in Sri Lanka’s Matale and Polonnaruwa districts, offers one of the greatest safaris. The group of wild Sri Lankan elephants that dominate this place will appear several times throughout your safari.

During your Safari, you may see elephants, purple-faced langurs, golden palm civets, mugger crocodiles, red-faced malkoha, and a variety of bird species.

3. Kaudulla National Park Jeep Safari:

The Park attracts visitors and travellers from all over the world, mostly to observe the park’s large elephant population. This park was declared a national park in the year 2002. During the dry seasons, all of the elephants from the nearby National Parks, including Kaudulla, Wasgamuwa, and Somawathie Chaitiya, congregate in the Minneriya National Park for an unofficial ceremony. This ceremony is known by the locals as “Elephant Gathering.”

The best time to visit this park is from August to December as during this time you can see a maximum number of wild animals at the park.

4.  Minneriya National Park Safari:

You will be astounded to see the world’s largest wild Asian elephant gathering on this Safari. The safari across the grasslands and around the lakes, with the stunning vistas of the national park, is humbling. The park’s richness of wildlife, which includes 24 animal species, 170 bird species, and 25 reptile species, boosts your chances of seeing something interesting.

5. Yala National park:

Yala National park is considered to be one of the most visited national parks of Sri Lanka. This one of a kind national park is popular for its wildlife, and with Sri Lankan elephants and leopards on show, this national park is a treat to visit. With a large number of elephants and one of the greatest densities of leopards in the world, travellers should be able to see these beautiful creatures when visiting the park.
